About

猫房 (Mao Fang) is set up by Cat Wu in 2013 when she helped to foster a cat named Xiao Hei because someone complained about his presence near a childcare centre.

In memory of Maomao (May – June 2012) – a Maine coon and Persian mixed cat who passed on just 10 days after leaving her house to stay in a shelter home, Cat Wu decided helping cats in need are building good karma for Maomao’s good rebirth.

Xiao Hei stayed in her previous hougang tuition centre’s computer room when she randomly picked up some young children’s chinese characters cards and somehow formed the word 猫房 (that time it simply mean cat room).

On 27 October 2013, while Xiao Hei was still staying in Mao Fang, Cat Wu rescued Mao

Mao (a severely thin cat who have injuries/ sores all over his body). Mao Mao was upgraded to the King of Mao Fang after  Xiao Hei was subsequently adopted by a young couple, Jason and Kyreen). This was a continuity in wanting to build good karma for late Maomao.

Somehow, without realising and remembering how it became like that, she started helping more n more cats who soon filled up that computer room and then room 2, room 3, room 4 and at the peak, 9 of her classrooms are all her rescued cats or abandoned cats in her centre by other people which she can’t possibly dumped them back to streets, she only left one room for lessons.

To find Mao Fang’s cats a good home, and to help other rescuers find more adopters for their rescued cats, Maomao 1st adoption drive was set up in the tuition centre in early 2013. Place was huge with enough space for many visitors at one go and to mingle with the cats and sharing of cats knowledge.  We had a total of 38 adoption drives held at the old premise, hope the drives had brought joy to many where some of us had treated that as monthly cats’ people gathering.

To stop further abandonment of cats at her premise, and to sustain her own job income to help the cats under her care without any donation, she move out of the big centre and move to a much smaller tuition centre in Serangoon. Mao Fang cats moved in to stay with her under one roof now. Mao Fang now is officially known as “cat house” as it is no longer that room for the cats, but a house where all of them live together, play catching together, eat together – while waiting for their forever home.

Maomao 39th adoption drive was the first drive that was held in the small centre in Serangoon, she hope that potential adopters do not mind the limited space for the big wish to come true – help more cats find a good home. Adoption drives were ongoing and were held almost monthly or once every 2 months. Our 45th adoption drive was in December 2019 before COVID and we are still looking forward to the next potential adoption drive date.

On this website, you will see the cats’ details in Mao Fang, this website serve as Cat Wu’s diary / logbook for the cats – behaviour or medical information. She hope that factual logging of the cats’ daily life and the medical help from vet can help some people who seek like information.

All these years, other than urgent cases, most of the cats Cat Wu rescued are old and sick cats whom she took palliative care for their last journey – so they don’t have to die in the drain, or cat that still have that single little bit of chance to fight on – so they won’t die without trying at all. In Loving Memory, she hope the deceased cats’ medical information can help someone out there.
